The Kensington Runestone was dug up in a field in western Minnesota in 1889, and it tells a dubious story of vikings coming to Minnesota in the 1300’s. “The Mooring Stone” is a publishing project that braids together stories of runestone copycats, portraits from the prairie, salvaged accounts of the runestone's creation, and staged photographic reenactments into a web of unreliable details.
